Located about a one-hour drive from our inn, the Tengendai Highlands sit in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture.

Situated in a high alpine zone at an elevation of 1,350 to 1,820 meters, it is one of Japan’s “100 Famous Mountains,” offering panoramic views of the Zao, Chokai, Gassan, Iide, and Asahi mountain ranges on clear days.

This snow area is known for spring skiing until around Golden Week. From the summit, you can admire spectacular snowscapes sculpted by harsh winter conditions, along with magnificent mountain vistas.

One of the most popular activities is riding a snowcat through this breathtaking winter scenery.

Includes round-trip ropeway ticket

• Adults: 3,800 yen

• Elementary students: 2,800 yen
  ※ Free for preschool children

• Limited to one person: “Navigator Seat” available for an additional 1,000 yen

Recommended Clothing

• Footwear: winter boots or mountaineering boots

• Warm winter clothing

• Insulated gloves

• Warm hat

• Spats/gaiters (if needed depending on footwear)

What You Can Enjoy

From the snowcat, take in sweeping views of the mountain ridges and enjoy spotting wildlife.
You can also try snowshoe trekking across the snowy fields, and savor freshly brewed coffee while soaking in the vast winter scenery—an unforgettable experience.
